Solid Waste Administration Training addresses solid waste administration and management factors on the community and environmental program side. This training discusses staff training, short range and long range planning, and technical assistance. Topics include how village residents may minimize community health risks via improving their own disposal practices (e.g. avoiding the sites during burning, keeping access clear, and cessation of in-town barrel burning) and management of the landfill. Topics also cover planning for any future financially feasible and community-appropriate facility improvements.
This course will focus on Tribal environmental management capacity in the area of comprehensive solid waste management, including grant procurement, by providing region specific resources and networking opportunities to Tribal environmental specialists, technicians, and city staff. SWA is an essential course for anyone directly involved in solid waste management in the rural communities.
This Alaska Forum, Inc. training is provided in partnership with the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, Solid Waste Association of North America, Alaska Chapter, U.S. Department of Environmental Coordination, the Environmental Protection Agency and other Alaska solid waste professionals.
With grant support from the USDA, a limited number of reimbursable travel scholarships are available for qualified attendee travel expenses.
