The Alaska Forum on the Environment is proud to present:


Paul Rose, who will appear as one of six keynote events at the Alaska Forum on the Environment on February 12-16, 2007 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Explorer - Expedition Leader - Speaker - BBC TV Presenter

Paul Rose is a very experienced and popular public speaker, field logistics expert, polar guide, professional diver and instructor, mountaineer and yacht skipper.

He was the Base Commander of Rothera Research Station, Antarctica for British Antarctic Survey for 10 years and was awarded HM The Queen's Polar Medal. For his work with NASA and the Mars Lander project on Mt Erebus, Antarctica he was awarded the US Navy Polar Medal.

His professional diving work includes science support diving in Antarctica, and Indian Ocean. He ran the US Navy diver training program at Great Lakes Naval Training Centre & trained many emergency response dive teams including the Police, Fire Department and Underwater Recovery Teams.

Paul is a Mountain and Polar Guide leading Greenland Icecap crossing expeditions, polar science support logistics & mountaineering expeditions. He is a Mountain Safety consultant to the oil industry in the Middle East. He advises & provides operational support to expeditions, charities & business in Health & Safety, Fieldwork, Diving Operations & Expedition Training.

Paul was Vice President and Chair of Expeditions & Fieldwork Division 1999 - 2002 at the Royal Geographical Society. Paul has been working with the BBC Science department since 2005 presenting programmes about science and the history of science. His credits include the series ‘Take One Museum’ which was shown in 2005 on BBC4 and ‘Meltdown – A Global Warming Journey with Paul Rose’ shown in March 2006 on BBC2.

His new five part BBC series,Voyages of Discovery began in November 2006.

A former Vice-President of The Royal Geographical Society, Paul is a man of many talents - an explorer and expedition leader, a professional diving instructor and mountain guide, a qualified yacht skipper, a mountain safety consultant and a very experienced public speaker.

Paul has many years experience of running a large range of scientific expeditions in the worlds’ most remote and challenging locations, including Antarctica, Greenland and The Indian Ocean.

Paul has retained his sense of wonder about the world – he is completely genuine and authentic. He’s an extreme adventurer with a genuine love of science, and a great gift for storytelling.
